Job Descriptions

General Labor Requirements:  All positions require moderate physical strength and a strong work ethic.

Landscape Dept.

Seasonal May through October. M-F 8:00-4:30 May, Sept. and Oct., and 7:00-4:30 June, July and August.  Overtime is paid for weeks greater than 40 hours.  Job sites vary throughout the valley.  Contact Duffy Hutchins, Manager.

Landscape Crews:  Focus is on new landscape installation.  Tasks include shoveling, raking, rock work, grading and drainage, timber construction, patios, walkways, irrigation, and planting.

Tree Planting Crew:  Focus is on large ball & burlap, and container tree planting.  Tasks also include irrigation, mulching, staking, etc.  Initial part of the season will be in the yard receiving and healing in nursery stock.  Planting ends in September and crew shifts to Landscaping.

Irrigation Crew:  Focus is on the installation of underground automatic sprinkler systems.  Tasks include hand trenching/backfilling, pipe bedding, head setting, minor adjustments and cleanup.  The Irrigation crew also does some landscaping work.

Maintenance Dept.

Maintenance Crews:  Focus is on care of existing landscapes.  Tasks include spring clean up, replanting, fertilization, deadheading, pruning, raking, seeding, weeding, mulching, mowing, pest control, irrigation installation and adjustments.

Retail Nursery Dept.

Job duration for this department varies with positions, but the overall season is also May through October.  The retail department is open 7 days a week.  Job site is RMTL grounds.  Contact Alyson McGinty, Manager.

Retail Foreman:  Focus is on customer service, nursery plant care and supervision of laborers.  Tasks include answering garden questions, recommending products, retail sales, cash tills reconciliation, loading and unloading (some heavy lifting), care of nursery plants, stocking, ordering and inventory control.
